3-2-1 MIAMI! Wes and I were invited to check out the Standard Hotel and Spa in Miami to talk about doing some
design work. Mali got to come along to enjoy some nice weather and modern furniture and search for guava jam.
Wes listening to his DJ set from the Blaqstarr BBQ the night before. Mali trying on sunglasses.
MALI LOVES FURNTIURE: Episode 1
Hans Wagner sofa.
While it was snowing in Minneapolis.
This place is incredibly relaxing.
Officially getting my Miami on.
The lobby of the Standard Hotel. The buildling was originally built in the '40s or '50s, so the lobby has that wide open
church lobby kinda feeling to it, but they've dressed it up with lots of beautiful modern furniture.
We eventually peeled ourselves away from the comfort of the hotel to check out some of the city.
Here's Mali shoe shopping.
Prince Klassen - the t-shirt.
Me and Wezz about to cut something or someone outside a pretty decent Italian restaurant in an otherwise
overly-touristy strip in
South Beach.
Art deco everywhere.
YOU GO GIRL!
Can I rewind time and have my Bar Mitzvah here?
According to DJ Grocery, this is the hallway from Star Wars that leads to the trash compactor.
INTO THE GARBAGE CHUTE FLYBOY!
Breakfast next to bed. Smoked salmon omelettes, toast, and potatoes. Very good I say.
Cool little garden.
We are outdoors.
Chillin' by the water.
Darth Vader's yacht.
The city and the water.
The pool. At the end of the pool you can see the hot tub with the hot waterfall.
...and thus began one of the best meals I have ever eaten in my entire life.
Jason, the manager of the spa, treated us to an extraordinary feast at the hotel's Lido Restaurant (named after the
original name of hotel during its mid-20th Century heyday). Here we see (from top to bottom) some kind of scallop salad,
grilled octopus tentacles, and a smoked fish dip. Incredible.
Closeup of the octopus.
Swordfish with some kind of olivey sauce, potatoes, and tomatos.
Wes got steak. I was a bit skeptic, but I had a bite and it was one of the tastiest steaks I've ever had.
Manny's, watch your back!
Wes showing off his steak.
Grilled red snapper. Perfect.
Many incredible desserts including caramelized banana split and a molten cappucino chocolate cake with ice cream.
Here we are.

Mali can't find guava jam, so she buys as much guava paste as she can fit in her luggage.
