Mali and her cute hat on the deck.
We had a surprise guest for breakfast - this lizard! He loved ham!
See?
I always enjoy seeing other country's signage.
We were hungry on our way to go for a hike and stumbled upon this unassuming bakery. Aside from a proper selection of desserts and baked goods,
the owner, who had just moved to Puerto Rico from New York, showed us her goat, veal, and pork stews / dishes and they all looked and tasted wonderful.
We opted for this Carribean veal dish with potatoes and a side of yellow rice. This was incredibly tasty. The lady at the cafe told us that while veal is
considered a fairly high class meat in the states, it's fairly easy to come by and not very revered in Puerto Rico so it's very inexpensive.
This huge dish and a bottle of apple juice came to $7 even.
After filling up on veal and rice, Mali and I went for a hike in the Guajataca State Forest (Bosque Estatal de Guajataca).
I'm a big fan of this logo.
This camera-shy butterfly finally slowed down for a photo.
Wonder if we'll ever find out what or who lives down that hole...
Here we are at the Cave of The Winds (Cueva del Vientos), about a 30 minute hike from the start of the trail.
...and worth every step. Those salt formations are just gorgeous. This was one of the top highlights of the trip for me.
We're in a cave!
The view looking up from inside the cave. Some real Raiders of the Lost Ark business.
Beautiful scenery on the drive from Guajataca down South to La Parguera.
Hand-drawn Jr. Pac-Man sign in an arcade.
Out of control floor tiles.
I love the overwhelming array of brightly-colored hand-painted signs advertising all sorts of different food for sale.
With all the choices of different street foods, we went with lobster empanadillas. These little fried pies filled with different seafood are available all over
Puerto Rico. At about $1.50 each, they make a convenient snack. We grabbed four to take with us on our flight back home.
Mali warming up for her surfing lesson with Tupi - a great instructor and all-around good dude.
Video footage of Mali's surfing experience to be made public pending her approval...
Gigantic banana split back at Isabela.
One last trip to the beach.
Hey buddy.
A very relaxing day at the beach.
Thanks Puerto Rico! We had a great time. So sad to have to put on long pants and go back to the cold and snow.
